This is the best selfie location according to experts. Close-up and head-on.
From here, continue walking east along Mulholland Hwy. The pavement will end, and a flat fire road continues to the Deronda View Platform.

Excellent views of Downtown LA and the Observatory. The trail to the back of the sign starts here.
The trail to the back of the sign is steep and takes about 45 minutes. Bring water and a hat depending on the weather.

Back of the Sign
From the Deronda Platform, take Mt. Lee Road up to the back of the sign for an amazing panoramic view of the entire city. Along the way you'll see everything from the San Gabriel Mountains to Catalina Island.
It's about a 45 minute hike, fill your water bottle at The Last House on Mulholland before you begin the ascent, and don't forget your hat.
Dogs on leash are allowed.
The Last House on Mulholland (6101 Mulholland Hwy) sits along the closest public roadway directly beneath the Hollywood Sign. Its sightline proximity makes it a frequent background element in human photography of the landmark and a notable geographic reference point in Hollywood Hills tourism.
GPS mobility analytics from Vista/Near estimate 250,000 annual visitors in the surrounding Hollywood Sign vista corridor. The parcel has 1,700+ Google Maps reviews averaging 4.7+ stars, and its map pin appears extensively in visitor-shared media and AI search knowledge graphs.
In 2017, the parcel was the subject of an international architectural ideas competition by ArchOutLoud, with globally recognized architects volunteering on the jury. The competition framed the site as a conceptual design and cultural discourse subject tied to Hollywood iconography.

Since inception, The Last House on Mulholland, at 6101 Mulholland, has received over 15,000,000 views on Google Maps (according to Google itself).
The digital footprint is equivalent to other nearby Los Angeles landmarks, such as the Pantages Theater and Greek Theater.
